Explore the outdoors near Midford

With Government guidelines telling us to keep staying indoors, we can all look forward to better days when we are allowed to roam once more and enjoy a relaxing retreat or romantic weekend away within the UK later this year. If you’re considering a stay at Tucking Mill, nestled within the lush Midford Valley on the outskirts of Bath, then we’ve got a few suggestions to help lure you outdoors when restrictions allow.

Undertake tranquil ride through the Two Tunnels shared walk and cycle path, offering views across the surrounding countryside on-route into or out of Bath’s grand sandstone facade. Pass through the dramatic Devonshire and Combe Down tunnels, emerging the other side into a wooded valley that follow the old tracks of the Somerset and Dorset line from years gone by. Please read the Two Tunnels code of conduct online, keeping social distancing guidelines in mind.

For those keen to engage in some local history, why not pay a visit to the ruins of Farleigh Hungerford Castle, occupied for 300 years by the Hungerford family and filled with hidden treasures inside and out to keep children and adults curious alike, including a chapel with rare medieval paintings, family tombs and a rather creepy collection in the crypt.

Enjoy a short stroll from your accommodation in the Midford Valley and discover the delight of the neighbouring reservoir and nature walk through the adjacent valley, home a diverse array of native flora and fauna, with the cottages themselves also offering the opportunity for fly-fishing and wildlife spotting along the banks of the babbling brook that passes through the country garden, do ask the owner/s for further information if this is of interest during your stay.

Please remember that Government guidelines currently state that we must continue to stay at home, but please wait patient in the knowledge that when we’re able to re-open, the family-run team at Tucking Mill will be ready to welcome you back safely.
